BTA Insurance Company SE Repeatedly Wins the Leading Financial Magazine World Finance Award In 2010 BTA also received the World Finance award – last year it won the title “Insurer of the Year 2010, in Latvia”. Insuring mopeds becomes mandatory from 1 July and BTA Kindlustus is the first insurance company to publish the prices of its insurance policies. Mandatory moped insurance in BTA will cost the policyholder €12-25, depending on the personal risk level of the driver.

International insurance group SE BTA increased its market share in the Baltic States to 16% in 2010 (14% in 2009), which makes it the third largest insurance company. The company that collected €102.1 million in total premiums in 2010 is the market leader in Latvia, the second largest in Lithuania and the sixth-largest non-life insurance company in Estonia. In Estonia BTA multiplied the volume of both liability insurance and financial risk insurance in its portfolio.

BTA Group became an European company – SE BTA – by the end of February as a result of reorganisation and the name of the Estonian branch of SE BTA was changed in the Commercial Register this week, said the manager of the Estonian branch of SE BTA Olavi Laido.

The statistical data of BTA Kindlustus indicate that the number of people travelling to Russia by personal car has increased in recent years, and the number of thefts and staged thefts of cars with Estonian number plates has also increased accordingly. As the usual comprehensive insurance contracts offered by insurance companies generally do not cover the risks associated with Russia, drivers should consider taking out extra cover that does offer protection against these risks, said the manager of the Estonian branch of SE BTA Olavi Laido.

The statistical data of BTA Kindlustus show that the persons who cause traffic accidents the most frequently in Estonia are men aged 18-24 who hold category B driving licenses and drive 3 Series BMWs. They mainly cause accidents in the surroundings of Tallinn, Tartu and other major cities. This is the group of drivers that has to pay higher comprehensive insurance and motor third party liability insurance premiums, said the manager of the Estonian branch of SE BTA Olavi Laido.

“I am pleased that we managed to maintain our volumes on the non-life insurance market, which has decreased 10-12% for two consecutive years, at the same level as last year,” said the manager of the Estonian branch of BTA Kindlustus Olavi Laido.

According to research by the advertising agency DDB Latvija, the business magazine Kapitāls and the market, social and media research agency TNS Latvia on the best loved brands in Latvia, BTA has taken top spot among the insurers and fifth place in the financial sector overall, ahead of almost all Latvian banks.

This year three insurance companies from Latvia were nominated for the World Finance award. The award went to the Joint Stock Insurance Company BTA, which was recognised as the best insurance company in Latvia. The award was also presented to another 55 insurers from other countries around the world.
